The reigning Miss Guyana World 2013, Ruqayyah Boyer, will be heading to Indonesia in September to vie for the Miss World title. Franchise holder Natasha Martindale and the executive committee are working around the clock to get the beauty queen ready.

Miss Boyer, the 2012 Miss Guyana Universe title holder, represented Guyana during the 2012 Miss Universe Pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada and became quite popular internationally for her graciousness after falling during the pageant’s preliminary evening gown competition.  The 23 beauty was officially sashed and crowned Miss Guyana World 2013 at the Pegasus Hotel in early July.

Born in neighboring Suriname, Ruquyyah grew up in Guyana where she studied International Relations & Diplomacy.  She currently works as a journalist and television personality and hopes to pursue a career as an international legal practitioner. In her spare time, she enjoys basketball, athletics, and photography and her favorite food is Indian cuisine. She also spends time working at the Hope Phoenix Foundation, a charity in Guyana.  Ruqayyah is also an advocate against gender-based violence and an ambassador for the Caribbean American Domestic Violence (CADVA).

Though Guyana has been unable to capture the Miss World crown, the country has, over the years, been able to grab the international spotlight with smart and beautiful representatives. Martindale has indicated that she intends to continue along that trend and put together a better program for the preparation of the contestants and the eventual queen.

The Miss World Guyana role will last for twelve months or until the crowning of a new queen, whichever comes first.  During her reign the queen will focus on the needs of her community and country, and on bringing home the crown when competing internationally.  However, the franchise holder is concerned that when the queen returns home it is usually the end of her reign – every door usually seem to suddenly close. The organizations’ aim will be to focus more on the Miss World Guyana as a brand whereby the Queen’s life will change forever in a more constructive and positive way — as a “Putting Guyana on the Map” campaign.

Martindale invites Guyanese organization and businesses, both locally and internationally,  to aid in the preparation of Miss Boyer who will need all of the assistance she could muster to represent Guyana at the Miss World pageant.  The pageant will take place on the resort island of Bali and the final round will be held Sept. 28 near the capital, Jakarta. The previous Miss World Guyana was Arti Cameron.
