I’ve had an ongoing love-hate relationship with vision boards ever since I created my first one about 9 years ago. Most people say they work, but a little voice inside was always telling me that they were kind of silly, so I never fully embraced the idea.
I was inspired to create my first board after watching a tv show, but I don’t recall putting much effort into it or even hanging it up anywhere. Needless to say, nothing manifested from that board. After that a few years went by without another board. Then in 2015, I joined the rest of the New Year “Resolutioners” and created my second vision board. This time I used my computer (yes – it was computer-generated), and I executed the perfect board filled with images of places I wanted to visit, and the goals I wanted to achieve. I printed my beautiful board at Staples and hung it right next to my desk where I could see it daily. I didn’t focus on it, but I knew it was there.
The year came to an end and again none of my visions had manifested, so for the next few years, I fell off again. I became slightly motivated back in March of 2018 when the young women from my leadership program created vision boards as a classroom project. But like all the other times, I wasn’t excited enough to put in the effort to create a board of my own.
This was until yesterday when as I was searching through some old computer files, something caught my attention. It was my vision board that I had created in 2015. I immediately clicked on the file and was shocked at what I saw. I had put so little follow-up thought into the board that I didn’t remember what was on. My eyes were focused on three images – a cruise ship, the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace, and the Eifel Tower in Paris.
I immediately checked to see what date the file was created and it said January 16th, 2015 4:27 pm. I sat there staring at the screen because a little over a month ago, my husband and I went on a trip to Europe and visited both London & Paris. Back in 2017 we also went on a cruise to the Bahamas. There are also a few other things that have partially manifested from that board but my recent travels stood out to me the most.
This was definitely an Ah-Ha moment for me because while I was expecting instant gratification, what I desired was already in the making. The lesson learned from this experience is that visions don’t expire, they just take time to manifest.
