Meet Food artist, Indra Mekdeci, CEO and Founder of Reminiscence.  Founded in December 2011, Reminiscence is the premiere source in Guyana for beautifully designed, delicious fruit bouquets and chocolate treats.  Indra was born in Guyana and currently resides in Georgetown where she runs her home-based business. Her mouth watering delicacies include chocolate dipped fruit, cake pops, edible hampers and an assortment of chocolate truffles.

The idea for starting Reminescence came to Indra while she was on bed rest nursing a back injury.  Using this time to browse the internet, she came across an American company which is popularly known for their artistic fruit baskets and bouquets. This sparked the idea for Indra and Reminescence was born.  After some trial and error, Indra perfected the craft of creating the bouquets and her business has been steadily growing. Indra designs and hand make all of her products including making the chocolate truffles from scratch.

Indra’s goal is to bring people together across the miles by allowing friends and family overseas to add joy to any occasion by gifting her healthy, beautiful creations to loved ones in Guyana. In an interview with Guyana Times International, Indra said she has always been an advocate of living a healthy lifestyle by eating fruits and vegetables.  She shared that at Reminiscence fresh fruits are purchased on a daily basis and only the highest quality local produce,  Belgian chocolates and premium

imported Strawberries for her creations. She also credits her mother-in-law, who is into crafts, for teaching her a few artistic techniques and noted that with the support of her family she was able to launch her company. After much practice in designing fruits using chocolate,  the creative entrepreneur pointed out that she hardly makes any mistakes or has to redo any of her edible projects.

Indra says that she really enjoys what she does.  ” I’m excited to have brought this new aspect to gift giving in Guyana. It’s a whole new and different approach to what we can give as gifts.” she said.  Despite encountering numerous challenges with other business ventures, Indra said that she’s determined to brush off and keep going. “I have always maintained, since I was very young, that it is important to go after your dreams. For me failure is no excuse to quit. Life goes on; if something doesn’t work out you just got to move on,” she encouraged.

Indra’s website (http://reminiscence.gy) links her business with the international market, allowing overseas- based Guyanese to make online purchases for their love ones back home.
