On April 10th, the first Guyanese Girls Rock Scholarship award was presented to Kelly Hyles at the “Bridging the Gap” Millennial Conference in Brooklyn, New York. Kelly, a high school senior, was accepted to the top 8 Ivy League schools in the United States and was honored for academic excellence. Nothing says Summer in New York like an outdoor festival and yesterday the Cultural Association of New York Inc. held its annual Folk Festival & Family Fun Day at the Old Boys High School Grounds, Brooklyn, New York. Guyanese Girls Rock was happy to be a part of the festivities that included singing, dancing and musical performances. Proceeds from the sale of merchandise from the GGR booth will go toward the Guyanese Girls Rock Technology Scholarship Fund.
The Guyana National Cultural Center was ablaze with talent on Monday evening for the “Let the Women Speak” Red Revolution Gala. Women from all over the country showed up decked out in a sea of red as a sign of solidarity and strength for the fight against domestic violence. Guyanese Girls Rock founder, Cloyette Harris-Stoute, was one of 10 women who were recently honored at the 2014 Guyana Cultural Association Folk Festival Award Ceremony in Brooklyn, New York.
