The elegant and unique style of Guyanese designer, Michelle Cole, is taking the runways by storm! Quoted as “one of the Caribbean’s most dynamic and artistically talented fashion designers,” Michelle Cole in quickly broadening her influence over the industry. She is currently one of the most successful fashion executives in Guyana and CEO of Colefacts, an affordable yet exquisite fashion line.
Whether by vision or intervention, on her eleventh birthday, Michelle was presented a sewing machine by her mother. She made her first entrance into the world of fashion in 1987, when she designed the wardrobe for a high school fashion contest and she hasn’t looked back since. The designer’s creative ability sets her apart in the fashion industry locally, regionally and internationally. In 1997 this enterprising entrepreneur launched ColeFacts. Her first big break came in 1999 at the Miss Guyana Fashion Show with Michelle as the designer of the queen’s wardrobe and winning the “Best Gown Award.” She was also Winner of the Caribbean Designer of the Year -Best Country Designer Award for Guyana, 2008 and Official Designer of the Accolade-the Guyana Music Awards -2009.
In the 2000 and 2001 Miss Guyana Talented Teen Pageants both contestants wore evening gowns designed by Michelle Cole. She also dressed the queen of the Miss Guyana Mashramani Pageant and designed gowns for contestants competing in the Miss Queen of the Caribbean, in Dominica and Miss Carnival, in St. Vincent. Her presence and designs were also represented in Brooklyn, New York, at the Folk Festival celebration, in St. Vincent at the Fashion Caribbean Showcase, in Barbados at the Caribbean Gift and Craft Show and also in St. Lucia at the Fashion Showcase and Jamaica Fashion week.
In 2011, winner of the ” Miss Guyana World” crown, Arti Cameron, also earn the Best Gown Award, with a Michelle Cole design. Michelle also designed the winning gown for the reigning Miss Guyana Universe, Ruqayyah Boyer. In June 2012, Michelle walked away with the Karib Nation Award of “Excellence” held in Landover, Maryland for her outstanding and remarkable contributions to the Caribbean Fashion Industry.
Michelle unique ‘Colefacts’ brand has become a household name and has earned the reputation as the best designer brand produced locally. Models and sponsors have used her design creations in local, Caribbean and international shows and pageants. She has acquired a vast knowledge of various cultures and lifestyles while traveling the Caribbean islands, North America and the UK, attending and participating in workshops and exhibitions. Recently, the designer launched two new hot collections in the US which received rave reviews.
Michelle’s vast experience with pageantry has not limited her designer range hence the ColeFacts line was primarily created to be accessible to the mass clothing market. Colefacts offers a wide range of designer clothing for everyone; men, women and children in sizes ranging from 0-22. With outlets throughout the Caribbean, this fashion line has become synonymous with style, innovation and alluring grace.
