Dr. Lewis, a distinguished Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, and acclaimed actor, has significantly impacted the entertainment landscape while steadfastly dedicating herself to philanthropic initiatives to empower underprivileged youth and grassroots organizations.

Dr. Dawnn Lewis, a shining example of excellence and compassion, was born to Guyanese parents and raised in the vibrant neighborhoods of Bedford-Stuyvesant and Flatbush in Brooklyn. Her journey from these Caribbean roots to global recognition is a testament to her cultural heritage and the impact she has made worldwide. As the President and CEO of Morning Jewel Inc., a prominent multi-platform production company, she has demonstrated unparalleled leadership in film, television, animation, music, and experiential events.

As founder and CEO of A New Day Foundation, Dr. Lewis advocates for underprivileged youth and supports grassroots nonprofits globally. Her charitable efforts have impacted communities across the United States, Guyana, India, and beyond, earning her an Honorary Doctorate in the Humanities, recognizing over four decades of dedicated service.

In addition to her philanthropic endeavors, Dr. Lewis’s contributions to the entertainment world are equally impressive. A recipient of multiple NAACP Image Awards, BMI Awards, and ASCAP Awards, she has received acclaim for her exceptional talent as a singer and songwriter. As such, she was inducted into the inaugural class of the Women Songwriters Hall of Fame. Her music has graced soundtracks for significant film and television productions, including Disney, ABC, NBC, HBO, and WIGS Films.

Dr. Lewis is currently making history with her participation in a reunion tour with the cast of A Different World, marking 37 years since the show’s inception. This 10-city tour, which includes visits to a series of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) across the nation, is a testament to the enduring impact of the show and Dr. Lewis’s contribution to it.
