Krista Martins is a professional choreographer, ACE-certified group fitness instructor and founder of Wukkout!® She has been teaching and performing professionally for over 15 years; she is also a Professor at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus where she teaches hip hop dance to undergraduate students. Krista has performed in a wide variety of music videos, commercials and television shows including but not limited to performances with MTV, BET, and the NFL. Most notably, her choreography was selected to be featured in NYC’s prestigious SummerStage Festival.
Krista’s passion for dance can be found in a number of genres including hip hop, ballet, African, and Soca. Hailing from a Guyanese family, as a young adult, she began to identify her love for Soca music and the deeply rooted culture connected to it; she became an active participant in various Caribbean carnivals throughout North America. A strong advocate of health and wellness, Krista realized the benefits her mind, body, and soul achieved from participating in these parades. She began teaching Caribbean dance workshops for corporate events and private parties. As the popularity of Soca music grew, Krista saw the need to preserve the culture’s authenticity while sharing its unique qualities to the masses and thus, Wukkout!® was born.
Wukkout!® is an hour-long Caribbean based dance fitness class designed to make you have fun and sweat just like you would if you were at Carnival! Find your groove while increasing your fitness level with body sculpting “wining” techniques that give you an intense, total-body, aerobic workout to Soca, calypso, and chutney music. All levels are welcome and no prior experience is necessary.
